Aloha kākou!

For this Saturday’s drop, we revisit our “Kāpena” tee which we originally released back in 2008. The tee was created to represent the local, hardcore waterman. Whether that be sport fisherman, boat captain, stand up paddler, surfer, etc. The tee features a seal utilizing modes of representation associated with life on the open seas: anchor, mooring lines, paddles, etc. All printed on black-on-black. Also releasing is a gray Mua New Era snapback with neon stitching and white snap.

Aloha kākou!

We believe that in order to keep Hawaiian culture alive, one of the most important steps in the process is sowing the seed (or instilling the Knowledge and Wisdom in our keiki). Today’s generation is plagued with disinformation, similar to how Monsanto is slowly destroying organic farms and crops with their GMOs. Metaphorically, the idea of dis/misinformation and deliberately keeping the Knowledge of our rich culture away from our Keiki is parallel to destroying those same seeds we’re sowing into our children, much like the glyphosate herbicides Monsanto uses to “cure” their crops. That’s why it’s up to us as elders and ʻIke guardians to be able to hold on to the purity of this Knowledge and Wisdom and take the time to cultivate it properly. The positive result of this is a fresh and sweet plant that will in time mature, and grow it’s branches, bearing it’s own fruit and seeds which results in that same succession of Knowledge being passed down.

To represent this idea, we’re releasing our Fresh & Sweet tanktop in all yellow (100% cotton) along with a new ‘H’ Pride New Era snapback in navy blue with gold ‘H’ and green underbill. 100% wool.

MUA KHAKI / BLUE NEW ERA SNAPBACK x 49 STARS

Thursday, August 1st, 2013 by

Releasing Saturday, August 3rd.

MUA_KHAKI_METALLIC_BLUE

Aloha kākou!

Saturday’s release is comprised of a brand new, khaki Mua snapback with royal blue stitching on the front, the FITTED crest on the back, tonal eyelets and a white snap. Coinciding with this release is our 49 Stars tee which is dipped in all navy blue with a white star printed on the front chest and the American flag with 49 stars printed in white on the back. So why 49 stars? Well, we can look at it in a few ways: For one, we were the last state to join the United States of America, therefore sometimes we may be overlooked. In another light, you could look at the single star representing Hawaiʻi being completely isolated from the rest of the continental U.S. Which also puts us on a platform on center stage. However you may look at it, we’re in a perpetual struggle to fight for our identity within politics and within a cultural aspect.
