ART IN THE STREETS

Monday, April 18th, 2011 by Kaboe

Aloha from Los Angeles! This past weekend I was fortunate to attend the opening of “ART IN THE STREETS” at MOCA in downtown LA.

By far one of the dopest shows I have ever witnessed, I would have to rate it #2, the #1 spot was Jean-Michel Basquiat’s show in LA. This show is so important on many levels! It was overwhelming to say the least! So much history and great energy all in one place under one roof, truly inspiring! It was really great to see some of my homies art hanging side by side with some of the artists that inspired me since a little kid. Everyone from Henry Chalfant to Lee Quinones, as well as FUTURA, BANKSY, MODE 2, Os Gêmeos and legendary Chaz Bojórquez. One of the best part of the gallery was seeing the homies RETNA and SABER, truly inspiring to see all of their hard work getting recognized, more importantly seeing SABER’s best creation, his little daughter, congrats again brother!

All in all, it was such a great pleasure to have been there and to witness another monumental moment in the history of our culture!

Shout out to my brother SUNNY PHONO for taking me for my birthday, best present ever!

So, if you are able to check the gallery out, I highly recommend doing so, you don’t want to miss this! I am going back later when the gallery is a little more peaceful so that I can really take the time to sit and experience the show again…
I know I have left out a lot of other great things that happened through out the course of the night, sorry, just too much to write about…so here are some photos that I took so that you can see…enjoy!

Last but not least the section that was dedicated to RAMMELLZEE…MIND BLOWING!!! Way ahead of his time! Rest In Power!

This is one of the RAMMELLZEE’s sculptures, this sculpture was at least 6 feet tall if not taller, super fresh!

I wonder if this is really how his bedroom looked, how ill is the skeleton head on the tiger print blanket!
—–> JUXTAPOZ captured his installation perfectly…check this out for more photos.
