Aloha kākou!

Remembering family gatherings that included beer, pupus, kids running around, and enough laughter to make your Opu sore is what this vibe is based on. Kanikapila jam sessions, games of pepito mixed with chase master and hide and seek is what it was all about! Music is such a huge part of our lives and our culture, deeply engrained in much of what we do and how we carry ourselves. From traditional hula to backyard jams with friends—music can tell a story, convey a mood, and bring friends and family together.

Kanikapila Bucket
Known as the Hawaiian version of plaid, the palaka (gingham) pattern was made popular during the old plantation days, because of its nature of being durable, yet cheap and plentiful. It was seen everywhere, from kids to adults, and was used for everything—play, school, going out, kanikapila, you name it. We decided to put our own FITTED twist on this local staple pattern by swapping out the solid and semi-opaque stripes with mini trilocks. From afar it looks just like the traditional palaka pattern, but when viewed up close, you see the intricate trilock pattern within, creating a subtle micro/macro design. The Kanikapila bucket features the trilock palaka printed in white across the navy outer shell. The underbrim features an enlarged checkered trilock pattern in navy and white.

Kanikapila ʻAina Snapback
A new ‘Aina snapback featuring colors that would’ve fit perfectly in that time period. Featuring an oatmeal heather crown with navy visor and front and back embroidery. The eyelets and side New Era logo feature white stitching that match up with the white back snap enclosure. A classic green undervisor brings the look together. Only 50 pieces were produced.

Kanikapila Tee – Black
A black tee featuring a large bold-lettered “KANIKAPILA” with a classic shot of some of our renown hometown musicians in a backyard jam sesh, giving off that old Hawaii feel-good vibe. Printed in black and white, with a small white crown on the upper back.

Triz Tee – White or Red
Featuring a large front print of arguably the most recognized musician out of Hawaii, our very own Bruddah Iz. He introduced the world to the Hawaiian sound with “Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World” and his songs are a mainstay in any quick kanikapila session. The design printed in grayscale using trilocks as the pixel base, creating the same type of micro/macro imagery as the Kanikapila bucket. The image is outlined in yellow, with a small black crown on the back.

Aloha kākou!

Tomorrow we will be releasing a two-piece pack, which consists of an ‘Āina snapback and an Islanders tee. This is a Tier Zero release, which represents some of our most detailed and technical projects releasing at select retailers. Blue Hawaii Surf will be the exclusive carrier of this pack aside from our physical and online stores.

Dubbed the Alpha Sierra Delta ‘Āina, this snapback features a camouflage pattern printed on premium, water-resistant, Denier PVC fabric making up the entire crown and visor. This material is widely used in the military for its durability and heavy weather resistance. The front logo is embroidered in white, along with the visor leaves and back crest. The side New Era logo, side crown, and eyelets are all done in black. A red rope and inner sweatband add a nice contrast to the rest of the hat, as does the white snap enclosure around the back. The state seal is featured on the inner satin liner and completes the look.

The Islanders tee provides the perfect complement to the Alpha Sierra Delta ‘Āina. Printed on a black tee, the front “Islanders” type is seen in black with a white and red outline, along with a white “50” underneath. The back sees a large “FITTED” and “50” using the same outline treatment. The left and right sleeves feature the FITTED crest and crown/swords logo, respectively.

Both the hat and tee will be available at our physical shop, while our online shop will only have the hat. Blue Hawaii Surf will also carry both the hat and tee. Please contact them for their own detailed release information.

‘AINA SNAPBACK x TRON TEE

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011 by

Releasing Saturday, April 9th

Aloha kakou!

This Saturday we’re unveiling our second run of our ‘Aina snpaback. The first time around we ran it in an all black nylon tape, this time around, we’ve kept the classic black on black colors however we’ve used satin this time. Hawai’i embroidered on the front in raised stitching with black braided cord that runs around the hat. The tee that’s releasing along with this snapback is dubbed Tron and it’s pretty apparent where the inspiration is derived from. The letters (in teal and reflective gray) spell out FITTED, HNL, HAWAII.

PALEKANA x ‘AINA SNAPBACK

Thursday, October 14th, 2010 by

Releasing Saturday, Oct. 16th

Aloha kakou!

We’ve drawn up plans for our assault for Saturday’s release, however we’re not able to fully disclose all the details; we’d have to kill you. What we can tell you is we’re releasing a new snapback New Era and t-shirt accompanying it. The snapback, aptly designated ‘Aina is all black ripstop nylon (think Black Ops) and features HAWAII in raised embroidery, black braided cord (rope, a throwback to the chinstrap it was used as) and tonal laureate (leaves) on the brim. Our accompanying t-shirt has been dubbed Palekana which means security or to secure. In a nutshell, we ride or die for Aloha and our culture and are protectors of any outsiders who dare to even attempt to exploit this. Detect. Attack. Destroy. Hats and tees are limited, per normal.
