Aloha kākou!

Our Spring/Summer 2015 Delivery continues this Saturday with more items from the Weight of a Picul Collection. In these two seasons, we focus our attention to two of Hawaiʻi’s commodities that have proven to be incredibly important in Hawaiʻi’s socioeconomic growth. ʻIliahi, or Hawaiian sandalwood, dynamically shifted our economy with the introduction of the trade industry. Koa ushered in a new demand for quality materials in modern times, solidifying its place among the world’s finest woods. The name “Weight of a Picul” stems from the Asian unit of measure that was used when trading the sandalwood in the early 1800’s, defined as “the amount a man could carry on his shoulder” and equalled 133 1/3 pounds.

For this collection, we created two separate Real Tree Camouflage patterns based on the rare and endangered ‘Iliahi Tree and the fine grain Koa Tree, both of which are endemic to Hawaiʻi. In each pattern we strive to highlight the trees for their distinct beauty and importance in Hawaiʻi’s history.

Cheehuu 59FIFTY
Our first 59FIFTY of the season, which also happens to be the first neoprene 59FIFTY we’ve ever released. Featuring a royal blue neoprene visor and crown, along with white contrast stitching throughout. The front and side embroideries are white while the back crest is stitched in white and blue. Another striking feature of this 59FIFTY is the use of white painted metal eyelets rather than the traditional embroidered eyelets.

Big Game Hunters Tee – Black
Featuring the same design used on the recently released Dri-Fit long sleeve tee, but printed on a traditional short sleeve tee this time around. A small double patch design is seen on the front left chest with a large Big Game Hunters design on the back, printed in blue and white.

SOUTH

As you know we just got blessed with the biggest south swell of the year which only means good things to me. I have been wanting to search the south shore by boat looking for a decent, hidden, uncrowded wave to surf for a while now and we did just that on Tuesday. After inviting a couple of the boys and Fitted designer gal Christina who I must mention was the only one down enough to show up we set off on our search. Launched from Ala Wai and turned right towards reef runway with eyes peeled for anything with promise. Make it all the way to Hickam AFB and still nothing but big, sharky, murky waves very uninviting and with just a two person crew neither one of us were very eager to hop in to the unknown. Then Christina gets a text form her man recommending we check rice bowls in front of Diamond Head so we turn around and haul ass back down the coast. We find what we think is Rice bowls but the wind is blowing hard and the peak is all over the place and I wasn’t very comfortable anchoring the boat in the not very defined channel. By this time we are beginning to feel like the picky surfer that drives from spot to spot in his car and never even ends up surfing because nothing is good enough. Screw that shit. OK time for the captain to make a decision and here it is, we are gonna go straight to the crystal blue waters of 3′s anchor and get barreled. I know it wasn’t the exotic break you were envisioning but who can deny that with a little size 3′s is one of the premier waves on the south shore. Not me. Anyways luckily for you guys Christina had her Gopro with home made mouth mount handy and was able to take a couple snappos for your enjoyment. Always good to get out there because as the old saying goes… “you can’t catch them sitting on the couch”. Aloha – RM
