SPRING 2014 D2 “LEGACY” (FIRST RELEASE)

Releasing in-store and online this Saturday, March 29th, 2014.

Aloha kākou!

Since we first opened our doors back in 2004, we have strived to not only release great looking product, but to also create meaningful designs that center around authentic Hawaiian culture, whether it be past or present. In each piece we offer, we try to teach and share the story behind it through the traditional style of Hawaiian moʻolelo (story-telling). In doing so, we hope to create or strengthen the connection to Hawaiʻi, and the pride in embracing that connection.

As we near a decade in this business, we chose to look back to the beginning and everything that has brought us to where we are now: countless designs that have stood the test of time and reminded us that we arenʻt just a fad that comes and goes; and of course you — our ʻohana — that have grown with us.

Our Spring 2014 Delivery 2 Collection is a look at our lineage and the humbling experiences we’ve gained along the way. These are some of our favorite FITTED stories and designs from the past nine years. This is our legacy.

“Pride of the Pacific” 5-Panel Camper
Features an all white linen base with our Pacific Standard label on the front and embroidered crest on the back. The left and right panels feature our classic “Pride of the Pacific” pattern printed inside out in red for a light, muted look. A black snap enclosure finishes the look.

“Aunty Bangles” Tee – Red
As a nod to our legacy, we’re bringing back a tee that is sure to turn heads. Our Aunty Bangles design was definitely outside-the-box, and thus became an instant classic. Also features the return of our big crown logo on the back in black.

Aloha kākou!

As we bring our Tori Richard + FITTED collection to a close, we’d like to give a huge mahalo to all of you for the continued support with each week’s release. The aloha shared between everyone in line is truly amazing to see.

We’d also like to send a very special aloha and Mahalo nui loa to the Tori Richard family for allowing us to collaborate with them, and for giving us access to their archive of premium cotton lawn fabrics. It was an honor to be able to bring their extraordinary fabrics and patterns to a new medium. Tori Richard was where I started my career many years ago and without the high quality and discerning taste that was taught to me we may have a very different FITTED today.

With all that being said, we are incredibly proud to announce the final piece from the Tori Richard + FITTED collection: the “Party Line” New Era snapback in black. To celebrate the culmination of all these great pieces, we decided to also bring one of our classic designs out of the vault. Our “Birds of Paradise” tee will drop on Saturday as well, utilizing colors inspired by the entire Tori Richard + FITTED capsule.

Aloha kākou!

The response to our Tori Richard + FITTED collection has been overwhelming, and we can’t thank you enough for the support. Last weekend’s release sold out immediately, and we expect a similar outcome for this Saturday’s release. By now you’re all familiar with the “Party Line” and “Thai Batik” fabrics that we’ve used in the last two weeks. Now we’re introducing a Tori Richard staple pattern called “Marquesas,” chosen especially for this release. Their “Marquesas” design is richly sophisticated, with detailed elements on a colorful yet muted palette — making it one of their most popular and recognizable designs. Only made in the 5-panel camper style, the “Marquesas” will drop alongside the teal “Thai Batik” snapback in very limited quantities this Saturday, March 15th.

NOVELTY, UNPREDICTABILITY, COMPLEXITY

Thursday, March 6th, 2014 by

1

Back at my usual Thursday shit, with a twist. Got to Heeia around 6:30am just in time to see an eye popping sunrise… oh how I am looking forward to making this place my new family home. Sky shows up right on cue and we get his boat in the water quickly… the water looked soo inviting. Motoring to Moku Manu we lay out the lures just outside the bay and we are fishing, correction, indulging in our favorite leisure activity. This was Sky’s first trip on the water after what he claims was his BDE. He scored big time last week and wanted to relive the dream at the same spot… we trolled on looking for the opelu piles so we could try our hand at a little live baiting. Thing about live bait is that you never know what is going to hit your bait. Ah and here lies the twist. So once we find the bait fish and Sky manages to get a couple in the boat with the spinner rod and damashi I send one out on the Penn 50 while he continues to chase the bait. So we have a couple livies out… one long one short when out of nowhere comes the man in the gray suit. Not our target species. What ensued was a 45 minute battle that was both unpredictable and complex. Each time I managed to crank the shark to within leader range he made another deep run peeling off every inch of line that I had so painstakingly just put on the reel. This went on for a long while until we decided that we better just yank this guy up hand line style before we piss him off real good. When we eventually get the shark next to the boat it is immediately crystal clear that this is a very strong and very big fish (9ft 200lbs+) and our boat is seeming kinda small (14ft single hull Livingston). Mind you we are about 4 miles offshore in the deep blue. We cut him off as close to the hook as possible without losing a digit and the shark is free to go about his day keeping balance in the ocean.
