ALOHA FRIDAY

Friday, February 26th, 2010 by

Aloha Kakou,

I’ve been wanting to put together an ALOHA FRIDAY post for a minute; I finally got around to it with the help of KNOWxONE (mahalo). In the back of Mom’s VW Bus heading to the beach, the one thing I remember the most is HAWAIIAN MUSIC.. ALL DAY EVERY DAY. Needless to say, nowadays I have 105 KINE programmed for my morning and afternoon drives. I feel like our younger generation doesn’t embrace this as much as they should! Please take some time and get lost in some GOOD MUSIC!!

Teresa Bright – Poli’ahu

Gabby Pahinui – Wahine U’i

Amy Hanaiali’i – Haleiwa Hula

Kalapana – When The Morning Comes

Israel Kamakawiwo’ole – Ka Huila Wai

Olomana – Ku’u Home O Kahalu’u

Brothers Cazimero – Pua Home

Dennis Pavao – Hawai’i Loa

Aloha Pumehana Serenaders (Darrell Lupenui) – Waikaloa

Hapa – Ku’u Lei Awapuhi

KONA NUGGETS x PRIDE H

Releasing this Saturday, February 27th.

This Saturday’s release is quite ambiguous — in simpler terms — open to more than one interpretation. The graphic on our newest release is a play on both the Denver Nugget’s logo, as well as a type of strain of fine-grade, high-octane sticky-icky known simply as Kona Gold. One of our island’s best kept secrets, in contrast with the all too cliché Maui Wowie. The graphic on the front features a snow-capped mountain, with FITTED, Aloha Served Daily and the Fitted crest beneath it. Back graphic hit sees the same mountain with Kona Nuggets resting beneath it. A tonal pakalolo leaf appears on the right sleeve as well.

Coexisting with the Kona Nuggets tee is a new Pride H New Era. Simple and sweet, all black with a white Pride H logo, crest and crown.

HOMEGROWN (JESSE SAPOLU) x CARDINAL CREWNECK PULLOVER x MUA

Releasing Saturday, February 20th.

Jesse Sapolu. A legend in his own right, and very well a legend in every proud Hawaiian’s mind. “A dominating presence on the offensive line,” Sapolu proudly donned the San Francisco 49ers uniform for fourteen years, clutching four Superbowl championship rings, and played with some of the greats of 49ers history (Joe Montana, Jerry Rice). A graduate of Farrington High School and UH, he’s also the main protagonist of our newest t-shirt in our Homegrown series.

This Homegrown pack features the aforementioned Homegrown tee which pays homage to Jesse Sapolu, featuring a photo of Sapolu contentedly displaying a shaka with three of his four Superbowl rings. Up next is a brand new Mua New Era which utilizes royal blue on the brim (navy blue stitching on the brim as well), navy blue upper on all panels and a white Mua logo with tonal New Era, crest and crown logos. Lastly is a cardinal crewneck pullover which is light enough to wear on a gusty day, featuring a white embroidered crest on the front area.

KIAWE GRILL

Words By: Kaboe Kavapalu

I have been living in Hawaii for a couple years now, and one thing that I miss most about LA is the food, no disrespect to the plethora of culinary offerings that are available here in Hawai’i, it’s just what I grew up eating isn’t present at the moment. So before I get attacked for this statement, let me explain…

Imagine if you, growing up in Hawai’i, moved to the mainland and you realize that finding a good Hawaiian meal, such as Helena’s, is like finding a diamond in the rough; for the most part, the closest thing you are going to get is L&L. This isn’t a bad thing, but it sure isn’t a large serving of pipikaula, some lomi lomi salmon and a large bowl of poi, feel me? Trust me, I love the food in Hawai’i, just missing a couple of things, like a good taco stand, a pupuseria, traditional Jamaican food, and so on. Which brings me to why I am writing this.
