Presently, the World is going through all sorts of global issues that seems to affect even the most average of citizens, including energy security, a global financial crisis that doesn’t seem to have an end in sight anytime soon, internal political frustrations and a potential war brewing between the United Nations and North Korea. We’re definitely not here to fear monger unlike, say FOX News, but the truth needs to revealed instead of hidden from us which has been happening for God knows how long already. Issues such as the on going financial crisis strikes a deep chord in all of us, whether you’re in the retail business or not. During these times, the word “competition” is not to be taken lightly, it’s survival of the fittest. And it’s definitely a rat race to see who can actually thrive in this harsh economic environment and keep it going. We most certainly consider ourselves a contestant in this here rat race, and thanks to all of you, we’re still here and going strong, still with a level head filled with humility. Thank you!

Seems many companies around the globe are embracing the Go Green Initiative and playing their respective positions on the field green. Colette out of France recently launched their MeWeRecycle program which aims to raise recycle awareness through art & design. The main inspiration behind this project is bicycling and recycling; their mantra is “There is no recycling without cycling and no cycling without recycling.” Japanese brand Zillion has even joined in on the project, taking anything from kimono prints and sakura motifs to create eclectic pieces. A very innovating and interesting project.

Zig-zags. Rollies. Papers. Whatever you choose to call it, it’s all the same, innit? Common household pothead tobacco accoutrement. Now I bet you didn’t know there’s a much more in depth story behind the graphic featured on the widely-known “tobacco rolling paper.” The character featured on the graphic is of Zouave, which is a common title given to a select few infrantry regiments in the French Army. The first Zouaves were enlisted by the Zouaoua tribes whom lived in the mountains of the Jurjura range. In the 1960s, Zig-Zag published viral leaflets with the Zouave character featuring the caption “Captain Zig-Zag wants YOU!”, akin to the political Uncle Sam war posters.

THE A’ALA PARK SUMMER SHOWDOWN

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009 by

This past Saturday FITTED, along with Element Skateboards sponsored a skate contest at A’ala Park. The festivities started at 10 AM and included refreshments 10 whole Red Bulls and a grill fired up serving hot dogs, street meat and lots of Aloha. Overall, there were lots of great skaters who do serious damage on the grip in attendance, but in the end, FITTED team riders “Lil’” Danny Hamaguchi and Tim “Action” Jackson stepped it the f*ck up and took first and third places. Danny snatched up his first place victory with a flawless run of lines including an insane amount of tricks in a row, while Tim seized third with his big and powerful style. Shout out to Danny & Tim! Also, huge props to Aaron McMullen and Alec for the photos. You can email him here for any info.

June 11th marks a special occasion filled with a sense of pride and sincerity, dedicated to the Napoleon of the Pacific, our late-great King Kamehameha whom we all know conquered and unified our islands. King Kamehameha Day was established by Kamehameha’s great grandson, King Kamehameha V in 1871, whereas the first observance of this state holiday was celebrated the following year. Governor William F. Quinn also announced Kamehameha as a state holiday when Hawai’i attained statehood in 1959. Kamehameha laid down the building blocks for basically everything we have and are surrounded by today, setting the foundation for the future of our ʻāina and cementing the rest in history.
