HOMEBREAK x ALI’I KAMEHAMEHA NEW ERA

Releasing this Saturday, May 30th.

Aloha. We’re proud to announce that the release of our long-awaited project with Kekoa Cazimero finally has a release date on the horizon. Here’s a short bio for those unversed in Koa’s history: Born and raised on the East side of O’ahu (Waimānalo to be specific), Koa graduated from Kaiser High School as valedictorian in 2007 and since the start of his surfing career, has won 5 state titles. Many of Cazimero’s (he also bears relations to The Brothers Cazimero) first waves were caught at Cockroach Bay (Baby Makapu’u); these days however, you can catch Koa at either of his two favorite breaks: Sandy’s or [Ala Moana] Bowls. Dubbed the “Ambassador of Aloha” (via ESPN), Kekoa has recently created his very own, non-profit organization appropriately titled “The Koa Tree Foundation” which “gives young surfers travel grants to compete on the mainland and scholarships to further their education.” You can check his entire profile right here for further information on the young surfing prodigy. Details for the Homebreak after the jump.

Night At the Documentary
Riding With Koa World Premiere Wrap-Up Interview With Kekoa Cazimero
By: Daniel Ikaika Ito

It took 14 months to make Riding With Koa, the biographical “action-umentary” about pro surfer Kekoa Cazimero. But, it only took one night to premiere the surf film to the world on Sunday May 24 in a packed Level 4 Night Club. Despite a stomach full of butterflies and a club full of family, friends, sponsors and fans, Cazimero kept his cool throughout the event; thanking everyone in the crew and all of those in his support network while on stage.

We caught up with the 19-year-old, goofy foot after signing autographs and giving one lucky grom a brand-new Eric Arakawa 6’ 0” to ask him about the emotions leading up to the premiere, the accuracy of the movie, the Koa Tree Foundation and how important style is.

HAMURA SAIMIN

front-sign

Hamuras is a local and visitor’s favorite on the saimin circuit. From the front door, open kitchen to the community style seating, this place does not lack your typical hole-in-the-wall attributes, they’re star quality with a dense dosage of authenticity. It starts off from Aunty selecting the bowl to go with what you ordered, then you tell her if you want side-orders of BBQ beef, chicken or shrimp. Nothing is written down which is crazy ’cause I was wondering how she forgot my shrimp order, but she remembered to charge me for it. Haha. As far as taste-bud fulfillment: Super Ono! Side of hot mustard & shoyu for my large special. The fam added some Diamond Head soda. Game over. if you’re ever on Kaua’i and have a chance to find this Lihue staple, you will definitely not be disappointed. “Hamura’s was awarded [2006] the James Beard Award for the most authentic ethnic food in the United States.” (via Trip Advisor)

Out today.

Knowledge 101: The Sun accounts for nearly 99% of our solar system’s mass, and although nearly 93,000,000 miles away from Earth, produces Light which travels this exact distance at approximately 8 minutes and 9 seconds. The mass energy produced from the Sun (sunlight) is what accounts for almost all life supported on Earth. Case in point: plant life is supported through photosynthesis. Besides supporting life on Earth and giving light to the nine other planets in our solar system, the Sun produces Vitamin D which is great for your skin (in lesser amounts, obviously) and yields some intoxicating, jaw-dropping sunrises and sunsets. The relevancy to this new pack? Shadows.
